What is Coast to Coast

This is an event held every second year in the Wellington region. A day long event for quilters from all over the region and New Zealand to show and tell, shop, share, laugh and learn together. This year's event is proudly hosted by Capital Quilters.

The Challenge!

This year's Coast to Coast has a challenge open to all comers. It's a fun, easy and portable one too.
Make an A5 sized postcard with a Christmas theme. (A5 is 15cm by 20cm).
It must have at least two layers and involve quilting, patchwork or appliqué.
As our theme is Turning Japanese, there will be a category for Japanese themed Christmas cards, as well as for more traditional interpretations.
This is a useful challenge too - scan your postcard and you can make your own Christmas cards with the image on the front. A lovely way to make your own unique cards!
The images below are Japanese Christmas cards, to get you thinking...

How to purchase tickets

Tickets will be available at the October club meetings of most regional clubs, but if you are out of area or want to ensure you don't miss out, here are the options:
Tickets are on sale at Minerva, Cuba St, Wellington.
Or, post a cheque for as many $10 tickets as you want, plus a stamped, self address envelope, to:
Capital Quilters
PO Box 33-146
Petone 5046.
We will then post them back to you.

Our Guest Speaker, Robyn Burgess

Robyn Burgess will be giving an entertaining and informative talk about Japanese quilts and buying trips to Japan.
Robyn has been quilting for over 25 years and has taught at a number of New Zealand Quilt Symposia as well as Wellington, Auckland and nationally for 20 years. She has exhibited in Auckland on an annual basis and has won awards including one at a national Symposium.
Robyn travels to Japan about once a year to source new ideas, fabrics, bag handles and notions. At our Coast to Coast event this year Robyn will be speaking about her trips to Japan and old Japanese textiles, along with a demonstration on Sashiko quilting.
